St Austell Pubs

F rom the Isles of Scilly to Bristol, our extensive range of characterful properties are located in some of the most stunning spots in the South West.

Step through the front door at any of our 180 pubs and you’ll be met with a warm welcome and exceptional service. Our award-winning beer is poured perfectly every time, and each venue offers a uniquely memorable experience that’s inspired by the breathtaking location it calls home. From seaside boltholes to hidden countryside nooks, our properties are a popular choice for locals and visitors alike.

We’ve expanded significantly since Walter Hicks purchased his first pub in 1863, the Seven Stars Inn, but continue to uphold the standards that were crucial to his initial success. Our pub portfolio showcases a combination of managed houses, which we oversee and staff centrally, and tenanted properties run independently by talented individuals.

What’s the difference between managed, tenanted and leased?

Our thriving estate boasts some of the most famous and beloved pubs in the South West, and you’ll typically find a St Austell pub at the heart of every community, particularly in Cornwall. If you're looking to find your local, check out our full property listing here.

Of our 180-strong estate, 38 are managed houses. Across these, we employ over 1,000 team members year-round with positions ranging from front of house and kitchen to housekeeping and maintenance. It's our passionate people that keep visitors coming back time and again.

Awards

We’re proud of the passionate pub teams across our managed and tenanted estates who regularly go above and beyond to deliver experiences that delight our guests. Their hard work is often recognised at industry awards both on a regional and national level.

Most recently, Jason and Chris Black, our licensees at the Pityme Inn, Wadebridge, were named champions at the BII Licensee of the Year competition – widely regarded as the most rigorous and hard-fought award for individual licensee operators in the UK. Read more here.

Elsewhere, our pubs consistently shine brightly at the South West Tourism Awards. The Pandora Inn, Restronguet Creek, won gold in 2021, with The Boathouse in Gillan earning bronze the same year. View our full list of awards here.
