Expand your role with our champion schemes

I n addition to our managed house team member roles, we run a series of Champion schemes that provide opportunities to develop new skills and get involved with other areas of St Austell Family Group.

No matter what your position, you can expand on your role to become a beer or wine expert, social media whiz, or communications hero. Here’s a look at what each scheme entails.

Beer Champions

Our Beer Champions are key to ensuring we lead the way when it comes to quality brews. In order to be able to spot when a beer is not at its best, you must complete a rather enviable training session. You’ll be treated to a brewery tour, showcasing the fascinating journey of beer from grain to glass. This culminates in an all-important tasting session with our Brewing Director, Georgina Young, and our Trade Quality team.

Our Beer Champions programme helps to create a deeper link between our pub and brewing teams, instilling a love for beer that's passed on to our guests when they come to the bar.

Wine Champions

It was back in 1851 when our founder, Walter Hicks, began the company as a wine merchant and maltster. Ever since then, we have continued to import, sell, and distribute a hand-picked selection to private and commercial customers, as well as our own pubs, across the South West.

Our Wine Champions know the ins and outs of our wine offering, which changes throughout the year. They’re the go-to for recommending the perfect red, white, and rosé with the latest dishes on our menus.

Social Media Champions

Our Digital Team runs regular training sessions to coach Social Media Champions at each of our managed pubs, inns and hotels. If you’re handy with an iPhone camera, with a gift for curating the perfect Insta grid, this could be your calling.

Social Media Champions know all about great food photography – essential for showcasing our seasonal menus and festive offerings – and have the ability to capture the best possible creative content for our Instagram and Facebook pages.

Comms Heroes

Our Comms Heroes make sure we're not missing a thing. They’re natural communicators who get excited about the work they and their team are doing, and are creative people with plenty of ideas to share.

Comms Heroes play a big part in our internal communications and enable us to shout about all the amazing things that are happening across the business. We have champions in each department to spread good news, killer statistics, photographs, team achievements – whatever they’re most proud of and want to share with the company.
