The prestigious list is the jewel in the crown for gastropubs across the UK. Now in its eleventh year, it ranks the nation’s best venues, according to votes from more than 400 gastropub owners, food critics and other industry experts.
The Cornish Arms at the foothills of Dartmoor, was voted number 16 in Britain, having moved up two places since 2019.
Since opening the pub in May 2013, the Cornish Arms has flourished as a destination pub. In 2014 the pub gained a Michelin Bib Gourmand which it has retained to this date. Chef proprietor, John Hooker, was also named Chef of the Year at the coveted Trencherman's awards. He’s also held 3AA Rosettes, featured in the Good Food Guide and competed on BBC 2’s Great British Menu.
John Hooker said:
“Improving our ranking on this year’s Top 50 Gastropubs list is testament to the continued hard work put in by our team at the Cornish Arms."
“We’re very proud of the food we serve - tasty dishes with little fuss, classic combinations, seasonal local produce and packed with flavour. It’s an honour to be recognised for what we do.”
Steve Worrall, Retail Director said:
“Congratulations to John, Emma and the entire team at the Cornish Arms. We are delighted that they have, once again, been recognised for their exceptional food offering and service. It’s a big achievement on a national scale.”
